Pledging to build an energy efficient, single-family home for a deserving, low-income family, HFHGL purchased a 2-acre parcel of land from the Town of Westford on November 7, 2007. The property, designated by the Town of Westford for the construction of affordable housing, is located at 18 Williams Avenue, and will be the site of HFHGL’s first new home in Westford.

Like our new project in Bedford, HFHGL plans to build the Westford home according to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings. Westford-based architectural firm Building Science Consulting created the “green” architectural designs and has pledged its support to ensure that the home meets LEED requirements. Compared to conventional construction, building to certain LEED standards could increase the home’s energy efficiency by as much as 40 percent and significantly decrease annual energy bills.

In addition to our green building initiative, HFHGL is planning to provide several unique volunteer opportunities, including a week-long “Women Build Week,” a “Builder’s Blitz Week” for industry professionals to come out and show off their trade skills, and a “Painting Party,” a fun-filled day for youth volunteers to paint the interior and exterior of the home.
